A HEALTHIER MOUTH SUPPORTS A HEALTHIER RESIDENT

For older adults and individuals who need assistance with daily care, oral health is an important part of overall health and quality of life.

Bacteria and dental plaque can accumulate quickly when brushing, flossing, and denture care become difficult. Poor oral health can contribute to inflammation, discomfort, difficulty eating, and other health concerns.

Oral Health & Aspiration Pneumonia

Older adults—particularly those with swallowing difficulties, frailty, or who require assistance with oral care—may be at increased risk for aspiration pneumonia.

Consistent professional and daily oral care can help reduce plaque and oral bacterial burden and support a healthier oral environment.

The SmilesReach Approach

Professional preventive care
Routine dental hygiene services to help control plaque, calculus, and oral bacteria.

Daily oral-care support
Individualized recommendations to help residents and caregivers maintain oral hygiene between visits.

Caregiver & staff education
Practical instruction designed to help caregivers provide effective daily oral care.

Airway & Swallowing Awareness
We remain alert for oral and functional signs that may warrant further evaluation and communicate concerns to the appropriate care team.

Xylitol-supported oral care when appropriate
Recommendations may include xylitol-containing products when appropriate as part of an individualized oral-care routine.

Early identification
Oral changes and concerns are identified and communicated so appropriate dental or medical follow-up can be obtained.

The Heart Behind SmilesReach

SmilesReach began with something personal.

While my dad was living in assisted living, I saw firsthand how difficult it could be for residents to receive consistent oral care. Transportation, mobility, medical conditions, cognitive changes, and the challenges of daily caregiving can all create barriers to something as important as maintaining a healthy mouth.

As a dental hygienist, I knew we could do better.

That experience became the inspiration for SmilesReach Mobile Hygiene—a way to bring professional preventive oral healthcare directly to people where they live.

Everyone deserves compassionate, dignified oral healthcare—regardless of age, ability, mobility, or where they call home.

It’s a way to reach people who might otherwise be left behind.
